Casa Bicentenario de la Música Agustín Pío Barrios

The Casa Bicentenario de la Música is a museum space dedicated to Agustín Pío Barrios "Mangoré" (1885-1944), a Paraguayan guitarist and composer regarded by much of specialized criticism as one of the most important figures in the instrument's history. It is part of the network of Casas Bicentenario run by the Centro Cultural de la República El Cabildo (CCR).

Its collection preserves relics linked to Barrios: one of his original guitars plus a couple of replicas, documents, scores, photographs and wax-cylinder recordings made by the musician himself. On May 6, 2026, the house reopened with a new museography, timed to the 141st anniversary of Barrios's birth and the 113th anniversary of composer Agustín Barboza. The curatorial redesign, led by architect Carlos Spatuzza and researcher Lea Schvartzman, added instruments, original scores, historical documents and photographic records of other key figures in Paraguayan music — including Luis Alberto del Paraná, José Asunción Flores, Emiliano R. Fernández, Herminia Giménez, Teodoro S. Mongelós and Mauricio Cardozo Ocampo — broadening the narrative toward the processes of creation, circulation and institutionalization of music as part of the country's cultural identity. The exhibit also displays international honors earned by Luis Alberto del Paraná (a Gold Record and a Golden Globe).

The reopening day featured guided tours led by maestro Diego Sánchez Haase, a playback of the first-ever recording of the Paraguayan national anthem, and an artistic performance by guitarist and musicologist Javier Acosta Giangreco. The space serves as a permanent tribute to Barrios and as a hub for promoting Paraguayan music in general, within the circuit of historic houses in downtown Asunción.
