About Museo Militar del Ministerio de Defensa Nacional

The Military Museum of the Ministry of National Defense was established by Decree No. 17,730 of October 16, 1939, and renamed the "Institute of History and Military Museum" on May 17, 1960. It is the institution responsible for preserving, disseminating, and promoting Paraguay's military historical heritage, housed at the Ministry of National Defense headquarters in Asunción.

Its collection spans from the pre-independence era to the 20th-century wars, with weapons, uniforms, flags, original documents, battle maps, and military equipment. It holds rooms dedicated to the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870) — including personal effects of General José Eduvigis Díaz — and to the Chaco War (1932-1935) against Bolivia, as well as spaces honoring Marshal Francisco Solano López (with clothing of his and of Elisa Alicia Lynch) and Marshal José Félix Estigarribia (personal effects, diplomas, uniforms, decorations, and remains of the aircraft in which he died).

For foreign visitors — especially Argentines and Brazilians whose nations took part in the War of the Triple Alliance — this museum offers a Paraguayan perspective on one of the most devastating conflicts in South American history. Admission is free and opening hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
