About Museo Tesoro Jesuítico Santiago
The Museo Tesoro Jesuítico de Santiago holds more than fifty wooden images carved by Guaraní craftsmen under the guidance of Jesuit priests, along with remains of the old Santiago church, demolished in 1907. Its four rooms occupy a building from the mission era.
The current parish church of Santiago, next to the museum, keeps the only complete Jesuit altarpiece in the country. The town, refounded in 1669 after repeated bandeirante attacks, is part of the route known as the Jesuit Trail, in the Misiones department.
