About Cooperativa Colonias Unidas

The Cooperativa Colonias Unidas Agropecuaria Industrial Ltda. was founded on March 8, 1953 by 78 farmer settlers from Hohenau, Obligado and Bella Vista, in the department of Itapua, and obtained its legal status on April 21 of that year. It is one of the largest agro-industrial cooperatives in the country, with around 4,000 members. Its industrial plants are concentrated in the city of Obligado (Itapua), where it operates the dairy plant, the animal feed factory, slaughter units, the oil processing plant and the yerba mate industry. It is dedicated to the agro-industrial production of soybeans, wheat, corn, canola, yerba mate and milk. Its annual volume is around 448,000 tons of soybeans, 62,000 of wheat, 64,000 of corn, 3,900 of canola and 8,700 of yerba mate, plus some 47.5 million liters of milk. Recognized as a model of solidarity development, it brings together German-speaking producers and producers from different communities of the region, and in 2023 it celebrated its 70 years of institutional life with surpluses and sustained growth.
