About

The Espíritu Santo Cathedral in Villarrica traces its origin to a Franciscan oratory built in 1683 on the same site. The structure seen today was completed in 1891, and its tower holds three bells, the oldest cast in 1781.

It is the mother church of the Diocese of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo, created in 1929 by Pope Pius XI. It stands in the center of the city of Villarrica, capital of the Guairá department.
