Gran Chaco Americano Interpretation Center

The gateway to the Central Chaco

Filadelfia, Boquerón

About Gran Chaco Americano Interpretation Center

The Gran Chaco Americano Interpretation Center is the main museum and starting point for discovering Paraguay's Central Chaco. Inaugurated in August 2020 by the National Secretariat of Tourism (SENATUR) with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under the National Tourism Program (Pronatur), it sits at the entrance to the city of Filadelfia, capital of the Boquerón department. Its 1,800 m² building, whose form evokes an armadillo, combines sustainable architecture with solar panels and samu'u trees on a two-hectare site.

The center offers a modern museum exhibition on the wildlife, flora, history and diversity of the indigenous peoples of the Western Region, along with an 84-seat theater with 4K projectors, a research library, a crafts and souvenir shop, and a SENATUR tourist information office. Admission is free, making it the ideal first stop to understand everything the Gran Chaco has to offer before touring the Mennonite colonies and indigenous communities of the area.
