Lambaré Hill (Cerro Lambaré)
Panoramic lookout over the Paraguay River
About Lambaré Hill (Cerro Lambaré)
Cerro Lambaré is a volcanic rock formation rising 156 meters above sea level on the banks of the Paraguay River, within the urban area of Asunción, in the Jukyty neighborhood. Part of the Ybytypanemá range, it is one of the capital's most iconic natural lookouts, offering a panoramic view of the river, the bay and the city.
At its summit stands the Monument to Victorious Peace, the work of Spanish sculptor Juan de Ávalos, inaugurated on April 28, 1982, featuring statues of Paraguayan national heroes and, at its base, a bronze statue of the Guaraní chief Lambaré, leader of native resistance against the conquistadors in 1536. The site gained renewed tourist interest after the opening of the Costanera Sur avenue in 2024, which eased access. Admission is free and a sunset visit is recommended.
