About Asunción Botanical Garden and Zoo

The Asunción Botanical Garden and Zoo (JBZA) is the largest green space and most extensive park in the Paraguayan capital. With 275 hectares of native natural forest, it is considered the ecological lung of Asunción. Its history dates back to the 19th century: the grounds belonged to the family of President Carlos Antonio López and later to his son Francisco Solano López, and the site preserves the historic residences of both, now museums that allow visitors to explore the domestic and political life of that era. The botanical garden houses an extraordinary collection of native and introduced Paraguayan flora, with species of trees, medicinal plants, orchids and palms. The zoo, one of the largest in the region, houses more than 200 species of native and exotic animals. The Carlos Antonio López Historical Museum also operates within the grounds. For families with children and for nature and history lovers, the Botanical Garden and Zoo is a must-visit in Asunción. Park access is from 07:00 to 18:00; the zoo opens 09:00–16:00 with entry of 11,000 guaraníes for adults.
