About Health Park (IPS)
The Parque de la Salud is a 19-hectare green space managed by Paraguay's Social Security Institute (IPS), inaugurated on December 14, 2007. Located in the Santo Domingo neighborhood of Asunción, near the IPS Central Hospital, it is considered the capital's second green lung after the Botanical Garden. Unlike a conventional park, the Parque de la Salud integrates green areas with free public health and wellness services for all citizens: it offers a nursing service for blood pressure checks, blood sugar monitoring and first aid; nutrition, psychology and general medicine consulting rooms; outdoor Pilates classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays; an outdoor adult gym; and a 'book park' with more than 4,600 books in several languages, magazines and educational games for children. For the foreign visitor, the Parque de la Salud offers a glimpse of social Paraguay and the public welfare system, as well as being a pleasant green space for rest and recreation in Asunción. Admission is completely free and the park is open every day from 6:00 to 20:30.
