About Cerro Corá National Park

Cerro Corá National Park, located in the Amambay department 39 km from Pedro Juan Caballero, is one of Paraguay's most important national parks for its dual natural and historical value. Within its territory, the last battle of the War of the Triple Alliance was fought on March 1, 1870, where Marshal Francisco Solano López — Paraguay's president and army commander — died. The park preserves the Paseo de los Héroes trail leading to the exact site of López's death and his son Panchito's, with symbolic tombs and monuments. The biodiversity is remarkable: subtropical forests, crystal-clear rivers including the Aquidabán Niguí, and fauna including the yellow macaw, bell bird, pumas, armadillos, maned wolves and giant anteaters. Visiting hours: Monday to Sunday 07:00-17:00.
