About Jesuit Mission of Jesús de Tavarangue

The Jesús de Tavarangue Ruins, together with Trinidad, form a UNESCO World Heritage Site declared in 1993. Founded in 1685, this Jesuit-Guaraní mission is famous for its grand unfinished church, a replica of the Church of Loyola in Italy, never completed due to the Jesuit expulsion in 1767. The architecture is monumental in scale, with rounded arches and majestic nave. Located 413 km from Asunción, accessible via an 11 km branch road off Route PY-06. The same ticket used at Trinidad is valid for 72 hours and covers all three Itapúa missions. An evening 3D video-mapping show transforms the ruins into a spectacular light-and-sound experience.
