About Jesuit Mission of the Holy Trinity of Paraná

The Trinidad Ruins are Paraguay's best-preserved Guaraní reduction and the country's most important archaeological site. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 alongside the Jesús de Tavarangue ruins, they represent the pinnacle of Guaraní-Jesuit baroque art. Founded in 1706, the mission once housed 3,000 indigenous Guaraní people. The complex includes an imposing main church, plaza, college, workshops, indigenous houses, cemetery and two museums. A magnificent frieze of musical angels and sculptures attributed to architect Juan Bautista Prímoli are among its highlights. Wednesday through Sunday evenings, a stunning 3D video-mapping show illuminates the ruins. A single ticket (valid 72 hours) covers all three Itapúa missions. Located 28 km northwest of Encarnación.
