Salto Cristal

45 m waterfall and nature adventure

Borja, Guairá

About Salto Cristal

Salto Cristal is one of Paraguay's most striking waterfalls: a drop of roughly 45 meters surrounded by Atlantic interior forest, spilling into a crystal-clear natural pool with a maximum depth of about 17 meters. It sits in the district of Borja, along the Cristal stream that marks the natural border between the Guairá and Paraguarí departments, in the Isla Yvate area, near Ybycuí National Park and about 150 km from Asunción (around a 3-hour drive).

Beyond swimming in the natural pool, the site offers adventure tourism: rappelling, zip-lining, hiking and snorkeling. The final approach is via a dirt road, and the descent to the falls includes more than 200 steps over uneven terrain, so proper footwear and, depending on the season, a 4×4 vehicle are recommended. It is a favorite Paraguayan summer destination for those seeking nature, cool waters and adventure in one place.
