About Villarrica — Cultural City of Guairá
Villarrica del Espíritu Santo, capital of the Guairá department, is one of Paraguay's culturally richest cities. Founded in the 16th century, it preserves valuable architectural heritage with colonial mansions from the 19th and 20th centuries in its historic center. Key attractions include the old Train Station, converted into a museum and cultural center; Villarrica Cathedral; and Lake Ykuá Pytã in Manuel Ortiz Guerrero Park. Villarrica is also the gateway to Salto Suizo Ecological Park and the Ybytyruzú mountain range. The city hosts the Guaireño Carnival (Paraguay's second largest) and the Festival de la Raza. Located 168 km from Asunción via Route 8.
