About Caazapá

Caazapá is the capital city of the department of the same name, situated in the southern part of Paraguay's Región Oriental. Founded in 1607 by Franciscan friar Luis de Bolaños as an indigenous reduction, it preserves a colonial heritage of considerable historical value, centered on its Franciscan church and convent. The local economy relies on smallholder agriculture, extensive cattle ranching, and regional commerce. The city serves as the administrative capital and service hub for the department's districts, set amid gentle hills and remnant native forests.
