About La Paloma del Espíritu Santo

La Paloma del Espíritu Santo is a rural district in the department of Canindeyú, in northeastern Paraguay, close to the border with Brazil. Its religious name reflects the Spanish-Guaraní colonial tradition that shaped the settlement of this part of the country. The local economy relies primarily on extensive agriculture, with soybeans as the dominant crop in recent decades. As in much of Canindeyú, the arrival of settlers of Brazilian origin played a significant role in the productive transformation of the district throughout the twentieth century.
