About Sajonia
Sajonia is one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Asunción, to the southwest of the historic center, along the Paraguay River. Its name comes from the German state of Lower Saxony, in honor of Karl Wilhelm Christian Heisecke, who together with his son-in-law Eduardo Schaerer developed the neighborhood between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It preserves sumptuous residences from that era, including the Domínguez palace and the Ubaldi mansion, with styles ranging from Italian neoclassical to Catalan modernism. In the 1940s it was considered a "chic neighborhood" of Asunción's wealthiest families. Today it combines that heritage legacy with a growing supply of modern buildings such as Torre M, and retains proximity to the Defensores del Chaco Stadium. The real estate offer includes restored colonial houses, apartments in new towers with full amenities (pool, barbecue, gym), and lots suitable for high-rise construction. For the international investor, Sajonia offers a balance between historic character, central location, and prices more accessible than those of the premium northeastern quadrant.
