The oldest surviving Jesuit chapel, now a diocesan museum.

Santa Rosa

About

The chapel of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, in Santa Rosa de Lima, is one of the few structures still standing from Paraguay's former Jesuit missions. Inside, it keeps frescoes painted by Guaraní hands and a wooden ceiling with star motifs from the colonial period.

Now a diocesan museum, it holds sculptures, altarpiece fragments and religious images dating from mission times. It sits in the center of Santa Rosa, in the Misiones department, along the route known as the Jesuit Trail.
