About Domingo Martínez de Irala

Domingo Martínez de Irala is a district in the department of Alto Paraná, bearing the name of the Spanish conquistador and governor Domingo Martínez de Irala, one of the most prominent figures in the colonization of the Río de la Plata region during the sixteenth century. The district has an agricultural-based economy, with soybeans and other crops as its main activities. It is part of the rural fabric of eastern Paraguay, a region that underwent significant colonization and economic integration during the twentieth century.
