About Hernandarias
Hernandarias is a district in the Alto Paraná Department located approximately 14 km north of Ciudad del Este, on the banks of the Paraná River. Its greatest distinction at a global scale is hosting the Itaipú Binational Hydroelectric Plant — shared between Paraguay and Brazil — considered the most productive electricity generating plant in the world: it supplies 100% of the electricity consumed by Paraguay and around 10% consumed by Brazil. The Itaipú complex, with its artificial lake of 1,350 km² and over 170 km in length, radically transformed the regional geography and economy. Along the Itaipú Highway (Avenida Monseñor Rodríguez) that connects CDE with Hernandarias, a services and commerce corridor has developed, including large-format stores, gas stations, car dealerships, and hotels. The residential profile is middle and lower-middle class, with family homes and affordable lots. For the tourist, the Itaipú complex offers world-class guided tours. For the investor, Hernandarias represents a bet on the sustained growth of the CDE metropolitan corridor, with low entry prices and residential demand driven by the workforce connected to Itaipú and the adjacent industrial sectors.
