About Ayolas
Ayolas is a district in the Misiones department located on the Paraguayan bank of the Paraná river, known as the service city for the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam, a binational project shared between Paraguay and Argentina and one of the largest energy infrastructures in the region. The district is named after the Spanish explorer Juan de Ayolas, who traveled through these lands in the 16th century during the conquest expeditions into the South American interior. Cattle ranching completes the local economic base alongside activities linked to the operation of the dam.
