About Yby Yaú
Yby Yaú is a district in the department of Concepción, in northern Paraguay's Región Oriental. The place name comes from Guaraní and is composed of the roots 'yby' (earth) and 'yaú' (bitter or sour), which can be interpreted as 'acid earth,' a description alluding to the characteristics of the local soil. Extensive cattle ranching is the dominant economic activity, in line with the productive profile of Concepción department. The departmental capital, the city of Concepción on the Paraguay River, operates as the commercial and services hub for the interior districts.
