About Catedral
Catedral is one of the oldest and most symbolic neighborhoods of Asunción, located within the Historic Center of the capital, alongside the bay of the Paraguay River. It takes its name from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, the first diocese of the Río de la Plata, whose original construction dates from 1539, just two years after the city was founded. The current building, inaugurated in 1845 during the government of Carlos Antonio López, is an example of 19th-century neoclassicism, with a main altar covered in silver and a polychrome carved wooden altarpiece from the former Franciscan convent. The neighborhood also hosts institutional buildings of the Paraguayan State, museums, and key heritage works of the historic center. The real estate offer is limited and mostly linked to heritage-value properties and old buildings with restoration potential. It is a sector with low residential density but high symbolic value, attractive for investors interested in cultural, hotel, or heritage restoration projects in the historic heart of Asunción.
