Yguazú adds AI data center projects: where each one stands

Yguazú, a district in Alto Paraná, in eastern Paraguay, is now home to several planned data center projects for artificial intelligence. Each one is at a different stage: some already have delivery dates, one is in environmental review and another grew out of an agreement between governments. Here is what each has made public, with the source of every figure. For the broader picture of the sector, our guide to Paraguay as an artificial intelligence and data center hub in South America provides the context.

Iguazú AI City: three stages through 2029

The developer is Araico Corporation. According to an ABC Color interview published on September 30, 2026 with a company executive, the project involves an investment of USD 12,000 million in Yguazú and would be built in three stages. The first, of 6 MW, would be delivered in December 2026. The second, of about 130 MW, would arrive in the second quarter of 2028, and the third, of similar size, in 2029. According to ABC Color, each of the two later stages would require USD 5,500 million, and the full project would need about 280 MW.

Infonegocios (October 1, 2026) reported that the first investment would be USD 300 million and that operations are planned from March. On backing, ABC Color says it is a group of Paraguayan, Latin American and U.S. capital, with the U.S. fund Founders Fund as anchor investor; according to Infonegocios, the firm lists Founders Fund, BID Invest and the U.S. DFC among its backers. The company also says its closed-loop cooling system reduces water use, and that its goal is to be the best customer of ANDE, Paraguay's state electricity company.

Pardat: environmental study filed with MADES

Pardat filed an environmental impact study in March 2026 with MADES, Paraguay's environment ministry. The proponent is listed as PARDAT E.A.S. According to the study, the complex would have 100 MW spread across four halls, on a 22.32-hectare site, with a 220 kV connection and a Tier IV design. The document foresees construction starting in January 2027 and entering service in September 2028.

Yguazú Digital: the government-to-government project

Paraguay and Taiwan signed a memorandum between governments in May 2026 (ABC Color, May 11) for this project, which is carried out by MITIC, Paraguay's technology ministry, and ICDF, Taiwan's cooperation agency. It has three phases: a 10 MW pilot, a second phase of 100 MW with a regional focus, and a third at hyperscale of up to 1 GW, the latter without a date. According to Bloomberg Línea (June 12), financing for Phase I is USD 200 million and it would be operational by late 2027. The original announcement is in our story on the launch of Yguazú Digital, and the commercial relationship between the two countries is covered in Taiwan and Paraguay: from soy to technology investment.

X8 Cloud and the area's context

X8 Cloud also joins the list: in September 2025 it signed a memorandum with ANDE to set up an AI data center in Yguazú. The area already has high-consumption energy infrastructure, too: HIVE, a bitcoin mining company (not AI), operates there with 300 MW running and another 100 MW under construction. On that sector, see how Paraguay reached fourth place in bitcoin mining.

The energy base

Paraguay produces renewable hydroelectric power. According to Hoy (May 12, 2026), the nominal capacity of Itaipú —the hydroelectric plant Paraguay shares with Brazil—, Yacyretá and Acaray totals 8,760 MW, a figure that depends on hydrological conditions, and electricity demand grew 40% in the first four months of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Última Hora (January 8, 2026) reported a record demand of 5,556 MW.

What comes next

The first milestone ahead is the delivery of the initial stage of Iguazú AI City, planned for December 2026, followed by Pardat's environmental review, with works projected from January 2027, and by Phase I of Yguazú Digital, planned for late 2027.
