About Zanja Pyta
Zanja Pyta is a district in the Amambay department of northeastern Paraguay. Its name blends the Spanish word for ditch with the Guaraní term «pyta» (red), evoking the reddish laterite soils characteristic of this part of northeastern Paraguay that colour the rural landscape. The territory is essentially agricultural and ranching in nature, with cattle farming as the dominant economic activity. Situated within the geographic context of the Amambay department, the district shares the hallmarks of northeastern Paraguay: hills of the Amambay mountain range, transitional native vegetation, and a way of life rooted in the land and in the Guaraní traditions present throughout the border region with Brazil.
