About Guazú Cuá

Guazú Cuá is a district of the Ñeembucú department in southwestern Paraguay. Its Guaraní name alludes to a large hollow or cavity — «guazú» means large and «cuá» refers to a hollow or cavity — a descriptor that fits the wetland and marsh landscape dominating this southern Paraguayan department.

Extensive cattle ranching is the district's productive mainstay, making use of natural grasslands that alternate with the region's bodies of water. Guazú Cuá shares with the Ñeembucú department the deep historical memory of the nineteenth-century War of the Triple Alliance.
