About Laureles
Laureles is a district of the Ñeembucú department in southwestern Paraguay. Its name refers to the laurel tree, a common element in the toponymy of historical settlements in the Paraguayan interior. The territory is part of the department's humid plain, with marshes and grasslands characteristic of Ñeembucú. The local economy is sustained by extensive cattle ranching and agricultural activities typical of the rural setting. The district is part of a region that carries a deep historical memory tied to the War of the Triple Alliance, a conflict that unfolded with particular intensity across the territories of southern Paraguay in the nineteenth century.
