About Mariscal José Félix Estigarribia

The district of Mariscal José Félix Estigarribia is the largest in the Boquerón department and one of the most extensive territories in Paraguay. It bears the name of the Paraguayan commander-in-chief during the Chaco War (1932-1935), who later became president of the republic and was promoted to the rank of Marshal. The namesake town hosts a strategically important military air base and serves as a service hub along the Transchaco Highway, the corridor linking Asunción with the Bolivian border. Low population density and the extreme climate of the deep Chaco define the character of this vast district.
